The 22nd International Painting Symposium "Mark Rothko 2026" exhibition will open at the Rothko Museum, showcasing works created by ten Latvian and international artists during their residency. These artworks were developed in dialogue with the atmosphere of Mark Rothko's hometown and his creative legacy, demonstrating the diverse artistic styles of the participants. The exhibition embodies the symposium's characteristic spirit of discovery, camaraderie, and creative exchange, with a portion of the works eventually joining the museum's international contemporary painting collection. Participating artists include Nikola Mueller (USA), Gustavs Filipsons (Latvia), André Hemer (New Zealand/Austria), Weronika Hempel (Poland), Mice Jankulovski (North Macedonia), Rosa Juanco (Spain), Vilen Künnapu (Estonia), Henry Mandell (USA), Peter Maslow (USA), and Emma Velde-Schaffer (New Zealand).
