Before Lāčplēsis Day, a commemorative event and light procession titled “Let’s light a flame for those who defended Latvia” will take place in Pārdaugava, honoring soldiers who fought in the Latvian War of Independence over a century ago. The event is dedicated to the significant Battle of Vīķu Krogs during the Bermondtian affair, where the 8th Daugavpils Infantry Regiment, alongside other units and allied naval support, achieved a decisive victory, paving the way for Riga's liberation. Participants are invited to gather at Bumbu Hill, which served as the Latvian army's command post during the war. The procession will follow the historic battle trail, concluding with a moment of remembrance at the monument to the 8th Daugavpils Infantry Regiment soldiers.
