The Dikļi Culture Center will screen "Uļa," a drama film from Latvia, Poland, Estonia, and Lithuania, directed by Viesturs Kairišs. This visually and emotionally powerful story explores identity, coming of age, and the search for belonging, set in Latvia during the late 1960s. It follows Uļa, an Old Believer teenager whose height leads her to a basketball team in Riga, where she must choose between hiding her unique qualities or becoming the world's best basketball player. The film's concept creator and lead actor is Kārlis Arnolds Avots, and it is based on the biography of legendary Latvian basketball player Uļjana Semjonova. "Uļa" had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
