Jelgava celebrates the 108th anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic of Latvia with a diverse program of events. Throughout the day, flowers and candles can be laid at the J. Čakste monument. An ecumenical service will be held, followed by a festive concert titled “We are in this land” by Rihards Saule & Band, featuring Latvian songs about Latvia. Celebrations will take place at Jelgava Lielupe Secondary School, including candle composition creation, singing, Latvian dances and games, warm tea, and snacks, with special guests the folklore group “Svitene”. In the Castle Park, residents are invited to create a candle composition for Latvia called “Our Path” using red and white candles, accompanied by bonfires, tea, and music from Artūrs Knope and Elza Kanceviča.
