An exhibition titled “Isildur’s Curse” by artist and illustrator Roberts Rūrāns is on display at Aspazija’s House. This series of works draws inspiration from J. R. R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" world, exploring the eternal struggle between good and evil and human internal choices. The exhibition focuses on the inner conflict within individuals between the desire for good and the temptation to succumb to weaknesses, which the artist connects to Plato's allegory of the chariot. A key idea highlighted is that seemingly small acts of kindness can hold much greater significance than anticipated. Rūrāns (born 1990), a graduate of the Art Academy of Latvia, works as an independent illustrator, painting in acrylics. His visual style has evolved from contemporary minimalism to an interest in medieval Christian art aesthetics and symbolism.
