About The Experience

The exhibition "“Ķiermeļu” Heritage. Traditional Pottery in Sēlija in the 19th and 20th Centuries" showcases pottery works and fragments discovered in the deposit of the "Ķiermeles" farmstead (Mazzalves parish, Aizkraukle municipality), a cultural monument of national significance. Researcher Baiba Dumpe processed 67 vessel fragments, documenting their forms, manufacturing techniques, technology, physical and chemical composition, and dating. The deposit contains pottery items dating from the 18th century to the mid-20th century, including works by individual potters and vessels produced in small workshops. A wide variety of household items are on display, such as mugs, bowls, flower pots, milk pots, churns, storage pots for fats and other products, and even a chamber pot. Three potters – Anda Ozoliņa Krūmiņa, Anda Svarāne, and Uldis Austriņš – created replicas of the vessels.
