About The Experience

The exhibition 'LAIMA. RAIMONDS: Portraits of Family Happiness' by Maretta Staprāne Bārlova explores the question of what happiness looks like. It merges Raimonds Staprāns' artistic legacy with a next-generation perspective, incorporating his painting principles of color, light, space, and composition into a new artistic process. The exhibition centers on 27 members of the Staprāns family across four generations, who shared their life experiences, perceptions of happiness, and listened to personally significant music. During the creation of the works, their brain electrical activity (EEG) was recorded, with the data then transformed into artistic parameters influencing the intensity, visual structure, detail, and sharpness of the models. This represents the artist's developed artistic method, not a clinical interpretation of EEG data.
